Five Quick Tips to a Healthy Back:

It is estimated that more than 80% of the population will experience back pain in their life…here are 5 quick tips to help keep a healthy back!

1) Avoid sitting for more than 20 minutes:
We, as humans, are not designed to sit. When we do sit, TEN TIMES the pressure pushes down on your spine! After 20 minutes of sitting, you must stand up and move around.  If you can’t stand up and move, continually adjusting your seating position will help.

2) Avoid sleeping on your stomach:
When you sleep on your stomach, it causes the spine to twist opposite of what is normal. Help cure this by sleeping on your side with a pillow between your knees.

3) Avoid sitting Cross Legged:
Again, our spine is not designed to continually be twisted. Sitting in this position puts pressure on the joints and stretches vulnerable muscles.

4) Wear the right shoes:
High heels, sandals, flip flops increase back pain. They do not provide shock absorption and increase pressure on the spine.

5) ICE, not heat:
Ice is the best way to reduce back pain. Ice is a natural anti-inflammatory and pain reliever.
